What does a health analyst do? Their aim is to help people improve their health. The health analyst studies data about the user’s wellbeing, which they obtain through gadgets and apps. These data allow the health analyst to have a full picture of the user’s lifestyle.

This is a profession of the future, it lies at the intersection of medicine, wellness studies, data collection and analytical IT.

We are launching an on-line study programme because we need such specialists at Welltory already. We will offer a paid internship and then a job in our company to the most highly motivated students. There are 7 vacancies for new specialists at the moment and you can become one of them.

Why health analytics is a profession of the future

The Atlas of Emerging Jobs compiled by Skolkovo and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives contains the following specializations for health analysts:

  • IT physician
  • Personalized healthcare expert
  • Online doctor
  • Healthy old age consultant

We believe that health analysts will be in high demand in the future. They are a link between the user and experts: physicians, somnologitsts, neurologists as well as wellness and sports specialists.

There are no higher education health analytics programmes in Russia yet. In the US, on the other hand, there already exist such courses, for example, Health Analytics at MIT.

The analyst’s job is essentially preventive medicine. They provide preliminary health examinations and preventive care.

People’s health is 75% dependent on their lifestyle, i.e. habits, home and work environment, sleep and rest patterns and diet.

That is why the analyst first studies and screens the state of the user’s health and then creates a personalized programme that helps the user stay healthy.

Welltory specialists collect data from fitness trackers and health and fitness gadgets and devices, consult experts and help our users solve their health problems. For example, they find suitable workout routines for those who want to lose weight. They find headache causes. They develop a system that would make the user more energized and productive.

If you want to use it as a self-study course the programme will take 3 weeks.

What is interesting about health analytics?

The general problem with training programmes, detox courses and even doctors’ recommendations is that they do not take into account individual aspects of a particular person’s health.

What is good for some people could be bad for others. Everyone is different, however, despite this fact we get “universal” recommendations like “go to bed early”, “drink more water”, “don’t drink alcohol” and “do sports”. What kind of sports? What if you are more productive in the evening and do routine activities more efficiently in the morning? You can find all that out with the help of data.

Besides, all these “healthy lifestyle” pieces of advice seem boring. No one thinks about their health until something goes wrong.

Conversely, our users see facts (for example, a user goes to bed at 10pm all week and sees their energy go up and sleep improve) that’s when they become more attentive to their health.

Health IT specialists collect and analyse accurate data about each user:

  • pulse,
  • heart rate variability
  • blood pressure
  • amount and quality of sleep
  • environment: humidity, atmospheric pressure, amount of CO2 in the bedroom

There are many developments in health gadgets, that’s why we are able to obtain more data and have an increasingly clearer understanding of people’s health.

There are already microchips being developed that could regularly take blood tests to measure the levels of glucose and cholesterol and even measure stress levels.

The data can be analysed by doctors to find the most efficient treatment.
