An honest review of Welltory published by Welltory, with the conflict of interest stated up front. Ratings were read from the live pages on October 21, 2026: 4.7 stars from 134,343 ratings on the US App Store and 4.6 from 61,206 ratings on Google Play; the page also links to Welltory's Trustpilot profile and notes that Trustpilot marks these reviews as invited. The page explains why written reviews are more critical than star ratings — of the 500 most recent written App Store reviews, 175 gave five stars and 164 gave one — and quotes short, unedited excerpts from public reviews with links. Users praise how Welltory turns heart rate variability, sleep and activity data into readable Stress, Battery and Health scores. The most common complaints are upgrade offers after paying, cancelling and billing, being charged for a year when expecting monthly, stress scores that do not match how people feel, camera measurement problems on some phones and too much data on screen. Each complaint comes with what Welltory's Help Center or Welltory's public store replies say to do: cancel where you paid, check the plan on the final payment screen, Welltory's refund policy, which provides full refunds only for annual subscriptions bought on Google Play or the website, the front-camera rule on iPhone 17 Air, Pro and Pro Max, and giving the algorithm one to two weeks to learn your baseline. It also covers whether Welltory is legit, who it is worth it for and who it is not.

Short answer

Welltory is a real, long-running wellness app with high store ratings and a vocal group of critics — whose complaints are mostly about billing, not the measurement. On October 21, 2026 it held 4.7 stars from 134,343 ratings on the US App Store and 4.6 from 61,206 on Google Play. Users praise how it explains stress and energy; the top complaints are upgrade offers, cancelling and readings that don't match how people feel.

Is it worth it? Usually yes if you will look at your data for weeks, not just glance at one number — and only after you know exactly what plan you are buying and where you bought it.

Before you blame yourself — or the app — for a "wrong" stress score, check what your body actually recorded that day: a short night, a hard workout or a late meal often explain more than the number on its own.

The annual plan renews automatically until you cancel; the lifetime plan is a one-time payment.

Note: this review is published by Welltory, so we have an obvious interest. To keep it honest, every rating below was taken from the live store pages on October 21, 2026, every quote is a short, unedited excerpt from a public review with a link to where it was posted, and we chose quotes to show the complaints that come up most often in recent public reviews, not only the praise. Product details follow Welltory's Help Center as of October 21, 2026, with a link to the article behind each one. Welltory is a general wellness product: it does not diagnose, treat or replace medical care.

Why written reviews sound harsher than the star average. A star tap in the App Store or Google Play takes a second; a written review usually comes from someone with a story to tell, and people with a billing problem have the strongest reason to write. That is visible in the text reviews themselves: of the 500 most recent written reviews on the US App Store (June 4 to October 18, 2026), 175 gave five stars and 164 gave one star. By our own count, about three in four of the one- and two-star reviews in that set mention billing, cancelling, upgrade offers or price.

So both things are true at once: the star averages in both stores are high, and a large share of the people who write about it are unhappy about how they were charged or sold to. A fair review has to deal with both.

What is Welltory, in one paragraph?

Welltory is a wellness app built on heart rate variability (HRV) — the tiny changes in time between heartbeats that reflect how your nervous system is coping with load. You take a short measurement with your phone camera, an Apple Watch, a Samsung Watch or a compatible chest strap, and the app combines it with your sleep and activity data into daily Stress, Battery (energy) and Health scores, plus reports on sleep, activity, workouts and logged blood pressure. According to the Help Center's device compatibility guide (checked October 21, 2026), most other trackers and smartwatches — Garmin, Fitbit, Oura and others — can send Welltory activity and sleep data through Apple Health, Health Connect or Samsung Health, but cannot be used for the HRV measurement itself. Welltory says plainly in its Help Center (app overview, checked October 21, 2026) that it is not a medical app and does not diagnose. There is a free version and a paid Premium tier; what each includes is on our page is Welltory free.

What do users like about Welltory?

Three themes come up again and again in positive reviews.

1. It turns watch data into something you can read.

"this is a very rich app with a lot of data points coming from multiple apps or fitness tracking possibilities. Just wish they had better free parts available." — Google Play, 4 stars, August 22, 2026

2. It nudges people to notice stress and recovery during the day.

"The app is teaching me when I need to stop and do a Vagus nerve or breathing exercise." — App Store (US), review "It helps!", 5 stars, June 30, 2026

"I truly enjoy the app and it keeps me motivated to watch how I breathe" — App Store (US), review "Best health tool out there!", 5 stars, July 31, 2026 (written by a free-version user)

3. It rewards people who pick a few metrics and stick with them.

"There’s a lot of data and it’s hard to parse through it all, but if you find metrics that are helpful to you and check on those regularly, this app can be very helpful." — App Store (US), review "Helping me return to activity after being sedentary for a decade", 5 stars, July 29, 2026

That last point matters more than any star rating. One HRV value means little on its own; Welltory compares you with your own baseline, which its Help Center (accurate measurements guide, checked October 21, 2026) says takes a week or two of regular morning measurements to form. The people who are happiest with the app tend to be the ones who gave it that time.

What are the most common complaints about Welltory?

We read the recent negative reviews on all three platforms. Six problems account for most of them. For each, here is what people say and what you can actually do about it.

"I already paid and it still keeps asking me to upgrade"

This is the most repeated complaint from paying users, and it is fair: offers for a lifetime plan keep appearing for people who already bought an annual plan.

"Even after you upgrade, you’ll be hounded forever to upgrade again." — App Store (US), review "Annoying as hell", 2 stars, October 18, 2026

"But I've already upgraded and yet you are still hassling me to upgrade." — Google Play, 3 stars, August 24, 2026

What you can do: Welltory has answered this complaint publicly in both stores. In a developer reply on the App Store it wrote: "Premium users can switch off in-app special offers in Settings." In a developer reply on Google Play on August 25, 2026, it wrote: "These offers can be disabled," asked the reviewer to send a bug report through Menu → Report a problem, and added: "We'll help turn them off for you." (Both replies read October 21, 2026.) One Reddit user suggests the support route too: "Use the report an error feature in the app to ask to be removed from promotions." (r/welltory, December 23, 2025).

"It's hard to cancel" and "I was charged after I cancelled"

A common cause in these stories: the subscription was bought in one place and cancelled in another.

What you can do: a Welltory subscription lives where you paid for it, and each one has to be cancelled there. According to the Help Center's subscription guide (checked October 21, 2026):

  • App Store: cancel in your Apple ID subscription settings at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Apple handles App Store refunds.

  • Google Play: cancel in your Google Play subscriptions.

  • Welltory website or a promo code: log in to your Welltory account, open the subscriptions section and click Cancel. Log in the same way you log in to the app, or you may end up in a different account from the one you are paying for.

Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Premium until the end of the period you already paid for. If you bought on the website and in a store, you have two subscriptions, and cancelling one does not touch the other.

"I wanted to pay monthly, and it charged me for a year"

"I tried to do monthly subscription and it defaults to annual." — App Store (US), review "No option for month to month", 1 star, June 10, 2026

What you can do: read the period and the renewal line on the final payment screen, not the price on the offer screen before it. That line is what you are agreeing to. If you were charged for a plan you did not intend, act quickly: for Google Play and website purchases, Welltory's refund policy (checked October 21, 2026) says: "Welltory only provides full refunds and only for annual subscriptions." The windows are 14 days after payment for a first subscription and 48 hours after an auto-renewal charge. App Store purchases are refunded by Apple. Plans and current prices are on our page how much Welltory costs.

"It says I'm stressed when I feel fine"

"It says I am stressed when I feel good." — App Store (US), review "Hard to use", 1 star, August 31, 2026

This one deserves a real answer rather than a defence. Welltory's Stress score describes physiological load — what your heart rhythm shows about your nervous system — not your mood. The two often move together, but not always: pain, being unwell, a late meal, alcohol, a hard workout the day before or a short night can all push the body into a stressed pattern while you feel calm. One free-version user who lives with constant pain put it simply in an otherwise five-star review: "Constant pain gives me the result of being in constant fight or flight mode when I actually feel fine." (App Store (US), July 31, 2026).

There is also the measurement itself. Each Welltory reading has an accuracy score; the Help Center's accurate measurements guide (checked October 21, 2026) says results are reliable when it is high (95–100%), and that moving, talking, controlling your breathing, a just-climbed staircase or poor finger placement on the camera all lower it. The algorithm also needs a week or two of regular morning measurements to learn your baseline. If you are judging the app on its first few days, you are judging it before it knows you. How the measurement compares with an ECG is covered in detail in is Welltory accurate.

"The camera measurement doesn't work on my phone"

"After I switched to the new iPhone 17 pro max this app stoppped working." — App Store (US), review "Barely does anything", 1 star, June 20, 2026

What you can do: according to the Help Center's accurate measurements guide (checked October 21, 2026), on the iPhone 17 Air, Pro and Pro Max the measurement can only be taken with the front camera, because the flash sits too far from the ultra-wide lens. Switch the phone to silent mode, rest your finger gently on the front camera and keep still. On any phone, the Help Center suggests trying a lighter or firmer press, a different finger position, warmer hands and different room lighting — and if the camera keeps failing, an Apple Watch, Samsung Watch or a compatible chest strap can take the measurement instead.

"Too much data, and I don't know what it means"

"It's too busy, too many graphs and colors and graphics." — App Store (US), review "Too Busy and Confusing", 2 stars, October 11, 2026

The same criticism appears on Reddit: "You get a ton of information and no real direction as to what it means or what to do with it." (r/welltory, August 1, 2024). It is a real weakness, and it is also the reason the "pick a few metrics" advice above works. If you are new, ignore most of the screen for the first two weeks: take one measurement each morning and read only Stress, Battery and Health.

Data from other devices. A related group of complaints is about workouts or sleep from another device not showing up. Welltory reads most third-party wearables through Apple Health, Health Connect or Samsung Health, so if your watch does not write a workout there, Welltory will not see it. On Android, one Reddit user whose Health Connect sync had broken — support told them the problem was on Welltory's side — concluded that experience "really depends on the OS and wearable (if any) each person is using" (r/welltory, December 23, 2025). So if your watch does write the data there and it still does not appear in Welltory, it may not be your setup: report it through Menu → Report a problem.

Is Welltory legit?

Yes, in the sense people usually mean: it is a real app from a real company, available on the App Store and Google Play for years, with a public Help Center, published terms, a privacy policy and a refund policy. The measurement has been studied: a 2022 study compared Welltory with a simultaneous ECG in 26 professional cyclists and found no significant differences — what that does and does not prove is set out in is Welltory accurate.

"Legit" is also a question about how a company treats paying customers, and here the reviews above are the honest answer. The product side gets far fewer complaints than the billing and sales side. Go in knowing how renewals, cancellation and refunds work, and many of the problems in the reviews are easier to avoid.

Is Welltory worth it?

Welltory tends to be worth it for:

  • people who want to see how sleep, stress and training load add up over weeks, not just today;

  • people who already wear an Apple Watch or Samsung Watch and want that data explained in plain language;

  • people willing to measure at the same time every morning for at least two weeks before judging the results;

  • people who like to test their own habits — what a late dinner, a run or a bad night does to their numbers.

It tends not to be worth it for:

  • anyone who wants a single simple number and no reading — reviewers who wanted that often left disappointed;

  • anyone hoping an app will diagnose a symptom or predict a medical event — Welltory does not do that;

  • anyone not ready to keep track of where they subscribed and when it renews.

The cheapest way to find out: start with the free version and the trial, measure on day one, and look at the full reports at least once. What stays free and what Premium adds is on is Welltory free.

How to try Welltory without the problems people describe

Many of the problems above are easier to avoid with five habits:

  1. Decide where you will pay before you pay — App Store, Google Play or the Welltory website — and remember it. That is where you will cancel.

  2. Read the final payment screen. The plan, the period and the renewal line there are what you are agreeing to. Every Welltory subscription except lifetime renews automatically until you cancel.

  3. Put a reminder in your calendar a few days before the renewal date. Refund windows are short: 14 days after a first annual payment, 48 hours after a renewal charge (Google Play and website purchases; App Store refunds go through Apple).

  4. Give the algorithm two weeks. Measure each morning, in the same position, before coffee and before your phone. Judge the app after that, not on day one.

  5. Export what you want to keep. On the free version, data older than 30 days is deleted. The web app lets you download charts as CSV: Dashboard → choose a chart and a time range → Export. Our guide to exporting your health data shows what to do with the file.

How Welltory helps — and what it cannot do

Welltory is a general wellness app, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, and it is not a substitute for a clinician.

What it does is give you a second opinion from your own body. You feel "fine" or "wiped out"; the app shows what your heart rhythm, sleep and activity were doing at the same time. When the two agree, you learn to trust your sense of your limits. When they disagree, that disagreement is useful too — it is often a sign that a short night or a hard week is costing more than you thought.

A routine that gets the most out of it:

  1. Measure once each morning at the same time, lying down or sitting with your back supported, without talking or controlling your breathing.

  2. Read three things first: Stress (how much physiological load you are carrying), Battery (how much energy you have left for the day) and Health (how your body is handling everyday stress and workload).

  3. Answer when the app spots a stress or rest episode and asks what happened — a late dinner, a hard workout, a difficult conversation, a bad night. Over time, tags show which events tend to come before your worst days.

  4. Look back over the week, not the day. One number means little; a pattern across ten mornings means a lot. Weekly and monthly trends and full history are part of Premium.

  5. Take the pattern, not the score, to your doctor if something worries you. Patterns are connections worth discussing, not proof of a cause.

What it cannot do: tell you what a symptom means, measure blood pressure (you log readings from a cuff), work as a heart monitor, or guarantee that a stress score matches how you feel at that moment.
