Who gets POTS, and why
POTS "is a chronic form of orthostatic intolerance that primarily affects female patients" (10.1111/joim.70104).
NINDS says POTS mainly affects people ages 15–50 and is more common in women than men. The POTS signal is in the data — but a one-number score buries it. Among 432 Welltory users who reported having POTS and also wear a tracker, the raw signal you'd expect from POTS is present: their resting heart rate runs higher than other users' (a median of 65.6 vs 62.2 bpm). The catch is that this difference never surfaces in the single morning wellness score most people actually glance at. These users report waking up unrefreshed more than four times as often as others (23% vs 5%), brain fog about twice as often (48% vs 23%), and frequent post-exertion crashes about twice as often (44% vs 22%) — yet their morning HRV *score* is statistically identical to everyone else's (3.08 vs 3.08), and their morning energy and sleep scores read the same or marginally better.
