Awair is a small device that constantly measures temperature, humidity, CO2, VOC (volatile organic compounds) and dust in the air.
In this article we are going to tell you what Awair can, how does it look like and provide you with some users’ reviews.
Why do you need to monitor air quality?
People seldom think about quality of the air they breathe. However, our health, efficiency and mood, as well as sleep quality are dependent on environment at home or in the office.
If you have allergies or asthma, Awair will warn you about high level of dust concentration in the air.
Don’t have enough of sleep even if you spend 8 hours in bed? Is it difficult to concentrate and focus on work because of a headache? Sometimes high CO2 level in the air is the reason. Await will detect it and gently remind to ventilate the room.
What Awair can?
Once you connect the device to a socket and set it up your data will be transmitted via either Bluetooth 4.0 or Wi-Fi.
To set Awair up and see your air quality, you need the companion app, which works on Android 4.3 and higher and iOS 8 and higher.
You can manually select air control mode. By default, there are “productivity”, “pregnancy”, “sleep” and “allergy” modes, set them up – and Awair will take care of air quality.
You can create your own mode that matches your personal preferences.
Every sensor of Awair measures single aspect of air quality. Thus, the device provides very accurate data.
- Temperature: from -40 to +125 C (from -40 to +257F) with +- 0.3 C error
- Humidity: from 0 to 95% with +-3% error
- CO2: from 0 to 4000 ppm (particles per million) with +-75 ppm error
- Volatile Organic Compounds: formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, xylene
Another sensor reacts on the light. When you go to bed – Awair switches off the LED indicators.
Data can be displayed in the app and also on the device’s screen. This distinguishes it from other air monitors like Netatmo for example – you need an app and a smartphone to see the data.
Screen colors change according to the current quality of the air. If everything is ok, it’s green. If t’s yellow – pay attention, red – immediate actions required. Interface is very intuitive.
There are three display modes and you can change them easily by tapping the top:
- Diagram and air condition
- Point indicator, changing its color according to the air condition
Display can be constantly on, adjust automatically to the level of light or turn off during the night.
There are recommendations in the app that help you improve air condition. For example, how to lower humidity level in the room and what temperature is better for sleep.
What else is important about Awair?
Awair connects to your smart home devices via IFTTT and can integrate with Nest smart thermostat and Amazon Echo voice assistant. You also can use Awair to manage the work of your AC, air purifier or humidifier.
What does it look like?
Awair creators did a good job working on the design – it looks very stylish and will perfectly fit any interior. The case is made of walnut tree while the panels are made of high quality plastic.
Front screen is a dotted LED display. Black dots are the sensors that process air.
In fact, it looks much bigger than it really is, so it won’t be a problem to locate it anywhere in your room.
Length: 160 mm
Height: 90 mm
Width: 50 mm
Weight: 725 g

Alex Lyskovsky, Welltory Co-Founder tested Awair in his house and shared his thoughts with us.
+ Nice and beautiful gadget. You only need to set it up once and it does its job flawlessly
+ Easy to connect, very intuitive and beautiful interface
+ Sends all the data via Wi-Fi, which is very convenient – you don’t need to keep Bluetooth on
+ Very accurate in temperature, humidity and other measurements. Helps to monitor CO2 levels
+ It’s really smart at humidity alerts – you can really feel the difference when is suggests opening the window and ventilating the room
+ Automatically turns display off at night and doesn’t disturb you at all
+ Can be used as a stylish clock
+ The company has a very interesting blog with reviews, tips, plans and updates
– Most pieces of advice are repetitive and some of them are strange and hard to follow if you are an ordinary busy person
– Unfortunately, it doesn’t keep history of the measurements for more than a week. It’s impossible to recall how clean my bedroom air was a month ago and how it has changed
Awair costs 199$ – you can buy it on Amazon or right from the company’s website. Its rival – Netatmo weather station – is cheaper, however not as stylish and intuitive. Another rival – Foobot air monitor – is as expensive as Awair, but has no display to show the key stats of the air.
To our mind, Awair is worth its price since the build quality, design, data accuracy and companion app are very decent.
Awair is a very nice and compact device that helps to control air quality at home or in the office. It is worth your attention at least because it reminds you about how harmful poor environment can be.
